47: Tim Burton‘s A Big Fish in an Ape Planet
Tuesday Mar 26, 2019
Tuesday Mar 26, 2019
Put on your black and white stripes, you pale loners! It's time for Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani to talk two films from director Tim Burton because Dumbo is coming out! The good feature is Big Fish, Burton's underrated bid for Oscar gold that will make you cry. Then, the bad feature is his very odd attempt to remake Planet of the Apes that will also make you cry... for different reasons. Plus, our duo grimaces over the idea of a CG deaged Jack Nicholson, marvels at the conceit of a Tim Burton/Arnold Schwarzenegger collab and picks the films for next week's episode on non-DC or Marvel comic book adaptations! So stop listening to that Danny Elfman playlist on a loop and switch over to us now!

46: Nothing But Prestige
Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
Tuesday Mar 19, 2019
Are you watching closely? Do you see double? Well, you certainly are seeing Double Edged Double Bill's new episode! Given Jordan Peele's new film Us is coming out this week, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are covering a double header of films where actors play multiple roles. Our good film is Christopher Nolan's The Prestige, in which both Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play dual roles while dueling with each other in the world of stage magic. Then, our bad feature is Nothing But Trouble, in which Dan Aykroyd directs himself and John Candy in multiple roles for an uniquely laugh-free comedy. Or whatever the hell that film is. Plus, our duo grapples with Nolan's phobia of digital video, tries to fight off the nausea induced by horrific man babies and picks their double header for next week's episode on Tim Burton! Hopefully you're listening in for all the secrets.

45: Death Race to Brazil - A Dystopia of 2050
Tuesday Mar 12, 2019
Tuesday Mar 12, 2019
The year is 2050. The world is in chaos. People are at each other's throats in divisive opinion. Humanity's future looks bleak. Stupidity and bureaucracy reign supreme over thought and compassion. So... it's pretty similar to 2019. Still, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are here to parse out a Double Edged Double Bill all about dystopian fiction films in honor of Captive State coming out. Our good pick is Terry Gilliam's Brazil, a darkly humorous Orwellian nightmare. Our bad pick is Death Race 2050, Roger Corman's return to the his malicious satire racing classic but with more green screens and half hearted Malcolm McDowell. Plus, our duo praises Robert De Niro's masterful work in Dirty Grandpa, guesses the conditions of Malcolm McDowell's riders provisions and does the picking for next week's topic on films where actors play multiple roles. Listen in now before society crumbles. You've got at least an hour and fourteen minutes until that happens, right?

44: A Sucker Punch Gone Haywire
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
With Captain Marvel soaring her way into theaters to punch skrulls in the face, Double Edged Double Bill decided to dedicate an episode to female led action films. Hosts Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are joined by Sara Sorrentino, Associate Editor at Talk Film Society and host of podcasts like Seequels and We Forgive You. The good feature for our trio is Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, in which Gina Carano kicks actors with major name recognition in the face for double crossing her. Then, everyone regrets their life decisions while digging into the bad feature Sucker Punch. Plus, Zack Snyder's original Superman costume plans, Michael Fassbender's choked transformation into Ben Mendelsohn and the picks for next week's episode on Dystopian Future films. So body slam whatever obstacles may be in your way so you can download this episode now!

43: Dick Miller Is Demon Knight of the Chopping Mall
Tuesday Feb 26, 2019
Tuesday Feb 26, 2019
About a month ago, we lost the unsung hero of cult cinema Dick Miller. A character actor who worked for six decades with directors like Roger Corman, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese and so many more. In honor of this legendary actor, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are joined by The Podcast By The Cemetery host Scott Crawford to discuss two films featuring Mr. Miller. First up is our charmingly bad pick from 1986 Chopping Mall, which has Miller being killed by cartoonish lightning animation. Then, our underrated good feature from 1995 Tales From The Crypt Presents Demon Knight, which features Miller at his most scary. Plus, our trio answers all the burning questions. Is there any actual chopping in Chopping Mall? What if the Cryptkeeper was a door-to-door bible salesman? What two films will be covered in next week's episode on female lead action films? Listen to find out!

Tuesday Feb 19, 2019
Tuesday Feb 19, 2019
It's awards season again and the Academy Awards are on the horizon. However, unlike that show, Double Edged Double Bill actually has hosts. Before the latest Best Picture winner is crowned though, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are looking back at a couple of winners of the past with returning guest Yonathan Habtemichael. First up is the winner from 2016 Moonlight as our good film. Then, playing the role of our bad film is the winner from 1989 Driving Miss Daisy. Plus, Adam's multiple Oscar baiting breakdowns, a special appearance by zombie Jessica Tandy and our picks for next week's episode honoring the recently departed Dick Miller. 41: Somewhere In The Room
Tuesday Feb 12, 2019
Tuesday Feb 12, 2019
This week's Double Edged Double Bill is for all you lovers out there. With Valentine's Day coming up, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are getting lovey dovey for this double feature of romance films. The good film is Somewhere In Time, the sci-fi romance starring Christopher Reeve. Then, the bad film is the infamous cult so-bad-it's-good film The Room from writer/director/producer/star Tommy Wiseau. Along with these two features, our duo discusses Eminem related expectations in cinema, the vampiric finances of Tommy Wiseau and our picks for next week's episode on Best Picture Winners. So stop trashing your room and have a romantic evening with our latest discussion here!

40: Jim Carrey in I Love You, Number 23
Tuesday Feb 05, 2019
Tuesday Feb 05, 2019
25 years ago this week, Jim Carrey kicked off his stardom with one of the most insanely successful years for any comedy star. In 1994, he appeared in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, three of the most successful comedies of the decade. So, Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are celebrating that banner year's anniversary with a Jim Carrey double feature. First up, the good film is the massively underrated dramedy I Love You Phillip Morris, which our boys argue is Carrey's best performance. Then, the bad feature is The Number 23, Carrey's first attempt at a thriller which... isn't as well received. Our boys discuss the memory retention of saxophones, ponder who should have played Dr. Eggman and pick the two films for next week! Listen in on all the smokin' action right here!

39: Avatar of the Hunter - Overrated vs. Underrated
Tuesday Jan 29, 2019
Tuesday Jan 29, 2019
While the picks on Double Edged Double Bill tend to be subjective, we've reached a new level with this week's episode. Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani have each picked a film they consider overrated and underrated respectively. The first film is Thomas' underrated film The Night of the Hunter, the 1955 thriller that inspired many a filmmaker yet isn't well known by the general public. Then, the discussion turns to Adam's overrated pick Avatar, the massive highest grossing movie of all time... that's left little cultural impact. Plus, where RL Stine ripped off his story structure, the supervillain origin story of James Cameron and our picking for next week's episode! Listen in here to determine if this show is underrated or overrated. Hell, we'd be surprised if it was rated in the first place!

38: Star Trek - Wrath of Generations
Tuesday Jan 22, 2019
Tuesday Jan 22, 2019
This week, our captains Adam Thomas and Thomas Mariani are going where no man has gone before: the Star Trek film franchise! Alright, plenty of Trekkers have been here before, but not our intrepid crew of the USS Double Edged Double Bill! Beaming aboard is returning guest and actual Trekker Kaycee Jarrard who will school Adam and Thomas as they venture into this double bill. First is the good feature Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which may be so good that it broke the potential of all Trek films to follow. Then, our bad feature is Star Trek Generations which brought Captains Kirk and Picard on screen together to... mixed results. Plus, crying over uniform adjustment, questions about Picard's love of Dickensian children and our picks for next week! Engage with us here!
